At 4 a.m. Saturday, Craig Simonson will get up and begin a 50-mile run.

He'll do that every day for the next 12.

Simonson is running 500 miles to raise money for epilepsy. His goal is $3,000 to be donated to the Epilepsy Foundation's Athletes vs Epilepsy program.

"I want to inspire people to go further than they've ever gone before," Simonson said. "And if you can do a good thing like a give-back, whether that's with Athletes vs Epilepsy or a cause that you can get behind, I just encourage people to move their bodies and make good health choices."

He owns a company called Savasana Epsom, which is how he got connected with the Epilepsy Foundation. He takes Epsom salt baths to soothe sore muscles after he runs long distances, and he learned that people with epilepsy do the same. So he decided it was a cause he could get behind.

Simonson said he will run from Grand Portage to Grand Marais, then also make stops in Silver Bay, Two Harbors and Duluth on his way south to his finish in La Crosse, Wis.

"It's a mixture of mental, physical and even spiritual," he said of running ultra-marathons.

He will stay with family, friends or at Airbnb's...as long as they have a bathtub so he can soak.
