Kyle Nelson and Mrs. Oberg prepare for a delivery

From Boreal Community Media - January 25, 2019

On Friday, January 25, Mrs. Oberg’s classroom at Cook County Schools was buzzing with excitement as the great aroma of coffee filled her room.  This marked the launch of Cathy’s Coffee Cart!

What exactly is this new concept all about?  A local friend who had a sister born with Down’s syndrome donated money to honor her life and the legacy of love that she left behind.  Under the guidance of Mrs. Oberg and her dedicated staff, students prepare the coffee orders and deliver to ISD 166 staff.  Staff then donate $2.00 for this welcome Friday morning treat.

Whether they are preparing the drinks, decorating the sleeves, or delivering to classrooms, all students are able to learn important customer service skills that will stay with them for a lifetime.  According to Mrs. Oberg, “This coffee cart is a great opportunity to deliver warm drinks and smiles while practicing job skills and independence. Our motto is "brewing with independence" and I think that is exactly what this coffee cart will do for my students.”

Thanks for giving your students this wonderful opportunity, Mrs. Oberg!
