A bow hunter bagged a world record non-typical mule deer that the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation described as a “deer of a lifetime.”

Dennis Bennett took the buck in the Arm River region of Saskatchewan, Canada, in October and on Monday it was announced as a Pope & Young world record, scoring 291 1/8, according to a press release from the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation. It beat the old record by more than 16 inches. Pope & Young records are archery only. The deer was also a provincial record for big game, breaking the record of 290 posted in the 1920s.

“Dennis Bennett’s enormous buck has a 5 by 5 typical frame with 15 abnormal points on each side with a gross score of 303 0/8,” BucksBullsBears.com reported.

“It was a pleasure to be part of the panel recognizing this beautiful non-typical mule deer from Saskatchewan as a new world record,” Eli Randall, Records Director for the Pope &Young Club, said, according to the Saskatoon StarPhoenix. “The pictures of this deer do not do it justice.”

The Pope & Young Club is one of North America’s leading bowhunting and conservation organizations.
