Local radio listeners may have been wondering what happened to WVVE 95.3 FM, the alternative music radio station that debuted last spring.  Boreal Community Media reached out to Aurora Broadcasting General Manager Matthew Butler for an explanation.

"95.3 FM operated using all the original equipment from the day the station signed on in 1998. It's all analog gear, and we had a final stage power amp failure. That particular piece of gear had to be shipped to a specialist out of state for refurb as the manufacturer no longer repairs it." wrote Butler in an e-mail to Boreal Community Media.   "We're taking it as an opportunity to upgrade our studio gear and do some other improvements that listeners can hear on air early in 2019."

In the meantime, "Radio North of Ordinary" fans can listen as the station continues to stream via TuneIn for iOS and Android - just search WVVE.

Aurora Broadcasting launched new radio stations featuring the first Adult Album Alternative (Triple A) music format in Northeastern Minnesota.  WVVE-FM 95.3 transmits from Grand Marais and KZJZ 106.7 FM broadcasts from Ely. The stations were purchased in 2018 and the format was launched in May.
