Cook County Library Mailing Now Available

Media Release from the Grand Marais Library - October 18, 2018

Residents of rural Cook County may have found something new in their mailboxes this week – a
brochure from the Mail-A-Book program offered through Arrowhead Library System. Mail-A-
Book is a service for individuals who live outside a town that has a library, and is intended to
deliver library materials directly to the home of distant users.
In order to participate, interested parties are requested to fill out the form they received in the
mail, and return it to Arrowhead Library System where they will be registered. Those who
already possess a library card do not need to complete this step.

Once a patron is registered, they may request items from the Mail-A-Book catalog, including
books, audiobooks, dvds, and more. Alternatively, users may log onto the library website
https://www.alslib.info/services/mail-a-book/ and request books there. New catalogs are
produced during the year, and are automatically mailed to those who use the service.
The online library catalog accessible through either www.grandmaraislibrary.org or
www.alslib.info site may also be used. As long as the requestor chooses materials held in the
Mail-A-Book program, materials are mailed to them at no cost, and include paid return postage.

If the item is not held by Mail-A-Book and must be obtained from another library, only the
delivery is free, while return postage is the responsibility of the borrower.
Any items may be returned to a library without charge, and some Mail-A-Book users do this
routinely in order to save the system the cost of postage.

Those who may need assistance in getting registered may contact Mail-A-Book by calling the
Arrowhead Library System at 218-741-3840. Alternatively, staff at the Grand Marais Public
Library may be able to assist. If you did not receive the brochure in the mail, you may still
register simply by going to one of the resources listed above, especially
https://www.alslib.info/services/mail-a-book/ .
