Dear Cook County School Community,

It is an honor to introduce myself as the new principal of Cook County School and the extraordinary Grand Marais community. I look forward to meeting all of the staff and students and beginning our journey together. I will assure you that I am dedicated to caring for the children each and every day while supporting the world-class learning environment.

Arriving in Cook County as the principal, I was previously a teacher of 13 years and a K-12 principal of 2.5 years. I spent time in grades 4-8 in an elementary and high school setting, specializing in Math instruction. As a principal, I led a K-12 team in White Earth, MN at Circle of Life Academy(COLA) a Bureau of Indian Education school.

Not only am I heavily immersed in education, I am also a committed mother and wife. This school year, my daughter, Emmalli, began 8th grade. She is active in volleyball, basketball, and softball. My son, Benelli, began 6th grade and is active in football, basketball and baseball. And, Molly, my youngest turned 4 and will be starting pre-school as we transition to Grand Marais and Cook County School. My husband of 17 years, Bryan, has been building elevators for the last 20 years and looks forward the experience of Grand Marais. We are an active family that enjoys the water, nature and any adventure life takes us on!

The 2017-18 school year will be my 15th in education. Although I felt at home in the classroom for 13 years, in the position of a school principal is where I have been most fulfilled in my work. As a principal, I have had the opportunities to work shoulder to shoulder with teachers on a daily basis, providing feedback and support. While also remaining connected with learners as they grow in the classrooms. I firmly believe that every child can learn and excel and that the partnership with families and school builds relationships that develop confidence and empower students to shape their future.

My first day will be September 24th and I am looking forward to meeting all of you as staff. I will be in the hallways introducing myself and would like to also have a few minutes with classes for a brief meet and greet with students. Please feel free to stop by anytime to introduce yourself as well.

In closing, please know that my door is always open to you. I heartily welcome your conversation and positive input and insight throughout this year. Let us always keep our focus on what is best for students and celebrate our collective successes during the school year!

Your Proud Principal,

Mrs. Megan Myers

Principal
