Ontario Provincial Police have arrested a man from the U.S. who allegedly failed to stop at the Pigeon River border crossing on Wednesday morning.

The border crossing is the one used by people traveling from Minnesota's North Shore to Thunder Bay.  Police say a passenger vehicle failed to stop at the customs checkpoint at about 9:11 a.m. Eastern time.

OPP officers later found the vehicle about 36 kilometers (22 miles) north on Highway 61 at Boy Scout Road, south of Thunder Bay, and pulled it over.

The male in the vehicle got out and was apprehended after a brief standoff.  There were no injuries.

An OPP spokesperson said it was not immediately known why the man didn't stop, and an investigation continues.  The spokesperson didn't know where in the U.S. the man is from.

Highway 61 was detoured for an investigation for several hours but has since reopened.
