Budget 2019: Board Sets Preliminary Levy and Truth in Taxation Meeting

At the Tuesday, Sept. 11 Board of Commissioners Meeting, the Cook County Board of Commissioners set the 2019 Preliminary Levy at $553,460 - a 5.99 per cent increase over 2018. The County Budget Committee, County staff and Commissioners will continue to review and refine the budget over the next several months.

During the meeting, County Auditor/Treasurer Braidy Powers reviewed the current 2019 Budget Summary requests and the estimated tax impact of several possible levy options. Administrator Jeff Cadwell reviewed additional details included in the Budget to this point, including:

 

  • $130,000 for Public Health Community Grants
  • $15,000 for Arts & Culture Grants
  • New staff requests,
  • Capital requests.

Commissioner Myron Bursheim made a motion to set the preliminary levy increase not to exceed 5.99% over the 2018 Levy. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Jan Sivertson and the motion passed 5-0. Commissioner Bursheim also made a motion to set the Truth in Taxation public meeting for Thursday, November 29, at 6 pm, in the Commissioners Room of the Cook County Courthouse.

The final County Budget and Levy for 2019, will need to be set by the Board before the end of December.
