North Shore residents and tourists have a new resource when planning trips from Duluth to Grand Portage thanks to a new interactive map featuring information about state parks, wayside areas and other attractions.

The Arrowhead Regional Development Commission, in cooperation with the North Shore Scenic Drive Council (NSSDC), Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Lake Superior Coastal Program (LSCP), as well as grant funding from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, recently developed an interactive map showcasing wayside rest stops, state parks and other points of interest along Highway 61 from Duluth to the Canadian border.

The map offers general information for 77 points of interest from the Aerial Lift Bridge and Glensheen Mansion in Duluth to Gooseberry and Split Rock Lighthouse state parks and other points of interest.

The map even provides information on each pull-off spot along the route and provides users information like if the sites are currently maintained, whether there are restrooms available or if there is access to Lake Superior.

The interactive map uses Google Maps to provide overhead- and ground-level views of all sites.

LSCP specialist Julie McDonnell said NSSDC will update the map as needed. Find the map at arcg.is/1aX8HL.
