SILVER BAY, MN -

Many people will be heading up the North Shore this Memorial Day weekend. Some will be camping. Some will be staying in hotels and resorts.

A Minnesota man has an idea that falls in between those two: a tiny home vacation rental.

"It's 27 feet long, by 8.5 feet across and 14 feet tall," said creator, Tyler Thompson, while sitting in the tiny home he named Endeavor One.

Thompson hopes Endeavor One is the first in a series of tiny home rentals spread throughout the Midwest.

"I wanted to make something that blurred the line between camping and staying in a hotel or cabin that was still within that similar price," he said.

His business, called Endeavor Tiny House Retreats, was born out of an idea eight months ago, when Thompson and his girlfriend were visiting the North Shore, trying to find a place to stay.

"We ended up staying in a hotel. It wasn't the nicest hotel and we ended up kind of overpaying for it," Thompson said, "We still had a great time, of course, but we were driving down the shore, and I started seeing a lot of signs for real estate for sale. [I was] thinking to myself, you know, I could probably make something pretty cool."

The tiny home comes with the basic amenities of a hotel: electricity, running water, bathroom, shower, TV, and mini kitchen. Thompson calls it the best of both worlds.

"You're spending most of your time outside, but you also have all those amenities that you look for when it comes to staying in a cabin or staying in a hotel," he said.

The home is across Highway 61 from Tettegouche State Park and features stunning views of Lake Superior.

"It really gives people a unique way to experience the environment that they traveled to go see," Thompson said, "Hiking, backpacking, waterfalls, lake shore, everything that you want from the North Shore is here."

The tiny home will open in June.

Thompson still has to build a deck around it and finish up some other work before it opens. He's using an online fundraising page to raise money for that work. People who give will get discounts and the first chance at booking their stay. You can find more information, here
