Welcome to Boreal Emergency Preparedness Portal.

Living and visiting Cook County and the Arrowhead region of Northeastern Minnesota has many rewards.  Our area possesses many natural wonders and attractions – from Lake Superior - the largest freshwater lake in the world – to our boundless wilderness areas across the Superior National Forest or the magnificent Border Waters Canoe Area.  We are home to breathtaking waterfalls, many unique State Parks and superb hiking, biking, cross county skiing and snowmobile trails

Each year, over two million visitors come to Cook County to enjoy our peaceful natural beauty, vibrant creative communities and our renowned Up North hospitality.

But living and visiting our area is not without its risks and hazards.  Every year, dozens of people become lost or hurt while hiking, biking, skiing, swimming, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling or just sightseeing.  As a magnet for visitors, we witness drowning, physical injury and accidents, victims of violent weather, undesired wildlife encounters and medical emergencies.

At Boreal Community Media and with our community of first responders and safety leaders, we believe strongly in the idea of “know before you go”.

This Boreal digital portal is designed to provide the information, coaching, contacts and tips to help you enjoy our region – safely.  It also provides access to resources on a whole host of emergency situations –at home, on the road, on the water and in the wilderness.
