Summer is approaching and that means another season of music, shows and fun at the Big Top Chautauqua.

The "Big Top" is a performing arts venue just outside of Bayfield, Wisconsin, that hosts 60 shows annually, between the months of June and September. Marketing Director James Shafstall explains that it's basically like a big tent out in the middle of the woods.

"You've got just a tremendous view of the Apostle Islands and Lake Superior," he says. "It's a really unique place, almost spiritual place to go and see music."

Acts range from original productions like performances by the venue's house band, "Blue Canvas Orchestra," to big headliners like Brandi Carlile, Vince Gill and Kenny G.

A local delight that's likely to draw a big audience of local residents to the venue this season is "Superior! Songs and Stories of the Big Lake."

"It basically centers around the question of, 'If this water could speak, what would it say?" Jan Lee explains.

Lee is the Writer and Director of the production. She says the story tells of the majestic history of the lake through original stories and song.

Shows begin June 15 with New First Night. "Superior! Songs and Stories of the Big Lake" has shows on June 17, 28, July 6 and Aug. 17.
