Weekly Conservation Officer's report -District 6 - Two Harbors area - Last updated: 2018-03-06

CO Darin Fagerman (Grand Marais) worked a BWCA detail with other officers. He checked anglers and completed a couple of snowmobile patrols on area lakes and trails.

CO Thomas Wahlstrom (Tofte) taught snowmobile safety at the Cook County Middle School with a volunteer instructor. The officer followed up on complaints of motorized vehicles driving on non-motorized trails and loud exhaust on snowmobiles. Enforcement action was taken for multiple snowmobile violations.

CO Anthony Bermel (Babbitt) worked primarily angling and snowmobiling enforcement, including working the vacant Park Rapids station with CO Al Peterson. Violations were prevalent including angling without a license, unmarked fish house, no shelter tag, expired ATV registration, expired snowmobile registration, failure to transfer ownership, no state trail sticker, and careless snowmobile operation. Snowmobile trails are very beat up after the extended heat wave and heavy traffic.

CO Sean Williams (Ely #1) reports a huge number of snowmobiles were seen over the week taking advantage of excellent trail conditions. He also helped certify a group of the state?s newest snowmobile riders when he assisted with a snowmobile safety course in Tower. Violations included angling without a license in possession and an unmarked fish house.

CO Marty Stage (Ely #2) spent time in the BWCA checking fishermen. The snow is very deep and some bad slush is occurring in places. Snowmobile traffic was up over the weekend, but the warm weather has already begun to melt the new snow. Remember to buy your new fishing licenses.
