Schedule of events for Hygge Festival

This year Grand Marais will be celebrating its 2nd annual Hygge Festival, February 9-15, 2018. Visitors will enjoy all the splendors of a classic northwoods winter vacation, dogsledding, snowmobiling, stargazing, fireside gatherings, cross-country skiing, in addition to the bonus of unique events to encourage the celebration and enjoyment of the wonderful things that make North Shore winters unique. Experience hygge at its finest by embarking on our very own Cook County Fireplace Tour.

Some of the many hygge-themed features include Scandinavian themed menu items, a full moon reading, cabin concert, art show openings, and lodging specials. Because of the endless opportunities for relaxation seekers, adventure driven souls and everyone in between, hygge festival week offers memorable experiences for all.

Friday, February 9th

4-7 pm Timmy Haus @ Voyageur Brewing Co.

4-7 pm Pop-up Hygge Shop with local shop The Big Lake @ Voyageur Brewing Co.

4:30 – 8 pm Cozy Couples Course Dinner @ The Crooked Spoon Cafe

5 – 7 pm Wall Hook Carving Lesson $10 @ Voyageur Brewing Co.

5:30 pm Cross Country skiing tour @ Stone Harbor Wilderness Supply Co.  Tour is free, reservations required. Stone Harbor will provide all the gear. Reserve by emailing [email protected]

6 pm Many Tiny Lights fundraiser for Sawtooth Elementary to buy ice skates for the kids @ Drury Lane Books. Candles will be available for purchase at the event for $5.

6:30- 7:30 PM Bonfire & Music by SVEA Singers @ Drury Lane Books

Saturday, February 10th

9 am – 12 pm Traditional Craft Demonstration @ North House Folk School in the yurt in the center of campus. Visit resident artisan Mike Loeffler as he demonstrates traditional methods of spoon carving. Pull up a seat in the cozy North House Folk School yurt (located in the center of the North House Campus) and warm up by the wood stove as Mike demonstrates the steps of carving a wooden spoon.

11:30 am Brewery Tour @ Voyageur Brewing Co.  Be sure to reserve online.

12:30 pm Knitting lesson by fireplace @ Voyageur Brewing Co.

4 – 7 pm Pop-up Hygge Shop with local shop The Big Lake @ Voyageur Brewing Co.

4:30 – 8 pm Cozy Couples Course Dinner @ The Crooked Spoon Cafe

5 – 9 pm Mukluk Ball @ Voyageur Brewing Co.

Sunday, February 11th

2 pm Picture and a Pint movie screening @ Voyageur Brewing Co.

4 – 6 pm Drop-in Felting Workshop $10 @ Voyageur Brewing Co.

Monday, February 12th

2 pm Snowshoe Tour @ Lake Superior Trading Post. Complimentary, pre-registration suggested for those needing to borrow snowshoes as those are limited. Register by calling 218-387-2020 and arrive early to get fitted
