For the second consecutive summer, North House Folk School in Grand Marais offered what is known as the Youth Deckhand Program. The concept behind the course is not only to educate youth about what happens on board a boat or ship, but to inspire and perhaps chart a course toward a lifetime of sailing.

This summer three local teenagers signed on board with the Youth Deckhand Program. WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs visited the students at North House on board the Hjørdis, a 50' sailboat owned and operated by the folk school, and shares this report.
