What is FireWise?
- Firewise is a national program, adopted by Minnesota and Cook County, which addresses the risks of
homes to wildfire in the wildland/urban interface.
- Where human development meets the fire prone forests and fields is known as the Wildland/Urban Interface.
- Every year more people build homes and cabins in the woods of Minnesota where wildfires occur regularly. It is impossible for firefighting forces to protect everyone's property in the event of a wildfire.
- Property owners don't need to feel helpless if they live in the Wildland/Urban interface. Firewise can help you minimize the risks of damage or destruction from a wildfire.
- Information on Firewise including free home assessments is available from Cheryl Walimaa, Cook County FireWise at 387-3642.
