Accessibility for Firefighters Firefighters need to get to your home quickly and safely. Make your home easy to find by having your address sign cleared of brush on both sides. Check it often for visibility. Driveways should be at least twelve feet wide with fourteen feet of overhead clearance. Make sure the winter snow is cleared to that width, too. Firefighters will also need room to maneuver equipment. Having a turnaround at the end of your driveway is ideal.
