9am • The Marvels of Cedar Bark - An Ancient Fiber Continuum with Judy Zugish
As the alder bud swells and spring sap rises, harvest time beats its drum in the hearts of makers. the traditions of red cedar from the Pacific Northwest coast are ancient and well documented. In our own time, the work of basketmakers continues to honor and explore this astonishing material. Beginning with The View from Here, a collaborative sculpture project in New Zealand, progress with Judy Zugish for a look at old and new uses with cedar; for discussion of the gifts of the forest, today and into the future. Be inspired!

10am • Baskets of the World with Tina Fung Holder and John Zasada
Baskets are made in nearly every part of the world from whatever can be woven, folded, braided or otherwise turned into a vessel. Tina Fung Holder and John Zasada will bring some unusual baskets from their personal collections to share the stories of where they come from and what purpose they serve. Participants are invited to bring interesting baskets of their own for sharing as time allows.

11am • All About Willow with Lee Zieke and Lindsay Lee
Lee and Lindsay call their basket willow ‘the ultimate renewable resource’. Listen in as these two seasoned willow-workers teach how this wonderful material is cultivated and crafted.


Come back from 1- 4pm to see basket demos in everything from birch bark to black ash and beyond!
