Woodcarving Demonstration with Harley Refsal

Harley is the Fall Resident Instructor at North House, and will be offering a variety of opportunities to share his skill and passion with the Cook County Community. He will be demonstrating Scandinavian-style woodcarving. Harley specializes in Scandinavian-style flat plane figure carving, a minimalist style that leaves the tool marks exposed. He has won numerous carving awards and has taught carving classes throughout the United States, Canada, and Scandinavia. In 1996, he was decorated by the government and King of Norway for his contributions to Norwegian folk art studies. Harley is the author of "Art and Technique of Scandinavian-Style Woodcarving." In addition to his carving and teaching, Harley is a professor of Norwegian language and Scandinavian folk art at Luther College, Decorah, Iowa. Join him for Open Carving Nights or come hear his presentation! /// Open Carving Nights at North House 7-9 pm Tuesdays October 17th, 24th, and 31st at North House Folk School Bring your own carving project and tools for a night of wood carving and socializing at North House.
