Former Grand Marais resident Suzanne Gucciardo shares photos and stories about her recent journey through the Sub-Antartic Islands of New Zealand and into the Ross Sea aboard a Russian-built ice breaker. The southwest Pacific area is known for its diversity of unique plants and animals. Meanwhile, the Ross Sea is the most pristine marine ecosystem on Earth.
