Butterwort Cliffs SNA
Limited Access. Why is it needed?
MEET AT BUTTERWORT CLIFFS SNA - From Grand Marais 7 miles SW on MN Hwy 61. Park in pull-off on N. Hike across Hwy 61 to site.
Butterwort Cliffs consists of a narrow strip of wet rock and dry bedrock shore communities on Lake Superior and the aspen-birch forest that extends from the rock shore to the northern border of the SNA. A variety of colorful lichens, ranging from orange to gray to green, cover much of the bedrock shoreline.
This area is closed April 1 to July 15. But why?? Join naturalist, Margie Menzies, as she answers this question and leads you on a nature walk in this little-known SNA.
