Woodcock in the brush
We spotted our first woodcock of the season in the brush along the driveway this evening.

Seagull Lake
A pair of Wood Duck on Seagull Lake, sighted 5/5/06. Magnolia Warbler have returned, White-throated Sparrow are singing, Common Loon, Bald Eagle, Merlin, Goldeneye, Mallard, Common and Hooded Merganser, all very active.

Black Bear, Broad-winged Hawk, Bloodroot
The black bear are out; time to take in those vulnerable bird feeders. Lots of Broad-winged Hawk migrating through, or into the County, as well as Merlin, Kestril, numerous sparrow species, kinglets, and the first warblers. Bloodroot, violets, and Virginia Bluebells coming up in the woods. Also, Yellow-head Blackbird spotted in Grand Marais on May 2.
