I'm on a high-speed system now, but the dial-up window keeps popping up whenever I try to do something online. How do I stop it?

  • Click on [Start], [Settings], [Control Panel], find the icon shaped like a globe called [Internet Options] and double-click it.
  • At the top of the page click the [Connections] tab and make sure there is a check in the box next to the "Never dial a connection" line.
  • Click the OK button at the bottom of the page.
  • If the box was already checked then uncheck it, click OK, reboot your computer, go back and put the check back in and click OK again.
  • If this happens when you're trying to check your email in Outlook Express, then go into Outlook Express and:
    • Click the Tools menu and click Accounts.
    • Click the Mail tab at the top of the screen.  You should see one account listed, called something like "mail.boreal.org" or "boreal mail".  Click it to highlight it and then click the Properties button on the right.
    • In the window that appears, click the Connection tab.
    • Click to UN-check the box that says "Always connect to this account using:"
    • Click the OK button, then the Close button.
