Writers encouraged to join "The Writers' Way" class at Cook County Higher Education

Cook County Higher Education will offer The Writers’ Way: Advanced Elements of Effective Writing with instructor Melanie Steele beginning Feb. 11.

The five-session course is an in-depth program geared for adults and students who would like to advance their writing skills. Steele will teach participants how to identify and focus on purpose, how to add content to achieve purpose and effectiveness, and how to revise and proofread for maximum impact. Writers in a variety of genres can learn new skills, gain experience and hone their writing skills.

Steele has been a writing tutor for over 10 years and ran the Writing Workshop at UMD in 2005-2006. She taught First Year Experience and freshman composition classes at UMD from 2003 – 2005, and a variety of writing and technical classes at Confederation College using traditional, video, and online platforms.  She continues to work with students as a mentor/tutor at Cook County Higher Education.

The course is offered over five Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. ending on March 11 at the North Shore Campus in Grand Marais.  The course fee is $40.
