The Cook County Vikings returned home late Friday night from Willow River and were on the court less than 12 hours later to take on the 12-3 Ely Timberwolves. The Timberwolves started out the game focusing on Deschampe, face guarding her all over the court. On the offensive end, Ely worked the ball slowly, running 3 minutes off the clock at a time, while the Vikes held their ground and forced them into jump shots and boarded hard. A last second 3 by Mariah McDonald put the halftime score at 9-16. Only 3 girls took a shot in the first half for the Vikes, and second leading scorer Theresa Morrin disappeared to the tune of no shots and four turnovers. The T-Wolves pushed their lead up to 9-20 before three Vikings broke out of their shell. Morrin cashed a 3, them added two more driving buckets to go along with Dish's only 3 of the game to pull the Vikings close. Ely responded with a mini-run of their own to push the lead to 21-28. The Vikes responded with an 8-0 run to take their first lead of the game, highlighted by Bekah Laky's sweet post scores. The last 5 minutes saw 5 lead changes, with Morrin giving the Vikes a 33-32 lead on a backdoor pass from Lily Gruber-Schulz. A Viking free throw with 7seconds left gave them a two point lead but Erin Muhvich hit a 15 footer at the buzzer to send it to extra time. After getting control of the ball, the Timberwolves took a couple minutes off the clock, before Muhvich once again made a tough shot in the lane.Deschampe took it right at defense and was hacked, where she stepped to the line and calmly tied the game with 2. A huge Jessica Berg-Collman steal gave the Vikes one look, but Dish's rushed 3 fell just short at the buzzer. The Vikes came out with fire in three second overtime a Laky drop stepped her way to 2and then hit Gruber-Schulz on a nice cut to take a 4point lead. The rest of the scoring was done from the line as the Vikings went 7-8 in the last minute to put away the win 47-43. The win was the 5th in a row for the Vikes, and just the Timberwolves 2nd loss in their last 14 games.
