Vikings Win 4th Straight
The Cook County Vikings made the long to Willow River to take on the ML/WR Rebels. The Rebels came in with a 12-4 record and a high powered offense averaging over 60 points a game. The Vikings used their two days of practice to rest, heal, and prepare for the weekend’s games.
The Rebels started out hot, jumping out to a 0-5 lead. The Rebels would only score once more, on a 3, in the next 13 minutes as the Vikings reeled off a 23 point run. Great defense highlighted the run, along with good passing and sharp shooting. Theresa Morrin scored 7 points during the run, while Ashley Deschampe added 9. After the Rebs chipped into the lead, Deschampe ended the half on a 9-0 run, with an and-1 and two triples. The Vikes took a 32-13 lead into the break.
The second half saw a much slower pace played by the Vikes as they whittled away the clock. With Laky and Morrin battling the foul bug, the Vikings were happy tool keep the seconds and minutes clicking off. Morrin added 10 more points in the second half, while Laky and Lily Gruber-Schulz both grabbed 8 boards. Deschampe led the Vikings with 26 points, Morrin had 17, and Laky contributed 8 in the 55-34 win. The Vikings are now 9-6,with a rematch against the Ely Timberwolves at 1 on Saturday in the CCHS gym.
