Viking Girls Basketball defeats Cromwell 68 - 50!
The Cook County Vikings came off a long weekend, including a Monday snow day to make the 3 hour trip to Cromwell to take on a pesky Cardinal team. The Vikings came out flat and struggled offensively to put the ball in the bucket. Pressure defense led to easy shots, but missed bunnies cost the Vikes from stretching out their lead. When the pressure defense stopped working, the Vikings were stuck in a rut against a stubborn team and the Vikings led 29-18 with 3 ½ minutes to play in the first half. Sophomore Ali Iverson came in and gave the Vikings a spark, though, with exciting defense and aggressive rebounding. Classmate Theresa Morrin, though, took over the game, scoring 10 points in the Vikings half closing 16-0 run. She dominated the inside, scoring on put backs and with her back to the basket. The spurt gave the Vikings a 45-18 halftime lead. The Vikings finished the win off 68-50, led by Ailee Larson’s 21 points. Morrin added 14, while Ashley Deschampe chipped in 10. The win moves the Vikings record to 11-1 heading into a huge game on Friday night against Floodwood. The Polar Bears come in as a top Section 7A team and will face your Vikings at 6:30. Come out and support the Vikes.
