State and Federal aid helps county rebuild roadsSubmitted by wtip on Mon, 08/18/2008 - 8:42am
Cook County will be receiving Federal Emergency Management Agency funds and possibly money from the Federal Highway Administration as a result of the June 6 storm damage to county roads. The exact amount of federal aid will be settled over the next ten days while FEMA representatives are in Grand Marais. County Engineer Shae Kosmalski told commissioners that the county has already spent nearly $239,000 in wages, materials, equipment use and contracts to begin storm damage repairs. The county did receive some aid from the state, but those funds did not cover the damage on local county roads. Kosmalski said that in addition to covering the expense for fixing local roads, FEMA may also reimburse the county for some of the wages, employee overtime and materials expenses incurred as a result of the storm. |
