The Silver Bay/Cook County Squirts placed third this past weekend in their sixth and final tournament of the regular season. After a 3-1 victory over West Duluth and a 1-3 loss from the likes of a tough Bemidji team, the Squirts were 1-1 going into Sunday's game against Hermantown Blue.

After three periods of regulation play the game went into first a 5 on 5 five minute overtime, then a 4 on 4 five minute overtime and then a 3 on 3 three five minute overtime at which point the game was still tied 1-1! With all players exhausted after a very hard fought game, the play went into a shootout with each team choosing three players to skate down and take a shot at the goaltender. Hermantown was first to shoot on goalie Cameron Roy and was stopped dead in his tracks with a shot going wide of the net. It was then Cook County's turn to take a shot at the Hermantown goaltender. Center Ethan Sporn did not disappoint putting a beautiful shot into the upper corner, making the score now 2-1 in favor of CC/SB. But the game doesn't end there as Cameron Roy still had face two more shots from Hermantown. He did again stop the Hermantown shooters and the game ended in a 2-1 victory for the Cook County/Silver Bay Squirts!   It was truly a heart stopping game to watch and what a way to finish the regular season. Playing on this team are Cameron Roy, Andrew Miller, Riley Somnis, Connor Somnis, Ethan Sporn, Josh Prom, Jake Bilben, Gavin LeBlanc, Tyler Mallory Austin Johansen, Giovanni Marolt, Jared LaBerge, Nic Reineccius, Thomas Rowlee and Peyton Westerlund.

The boys continue on into postseason play with a game vs. Superior at the Heritage Center in Duluth tonight, Good Luck Squirts!
