The Silver Bay/Cook County Peewees headed to Moose Lake this past weekend for district play.  The league of eleven teams was very tight this year.  Our team was seeded #5 and were taking on Duluth East Red, the #4 team, in the first round of play at 8:00 am on Saturday morning.

Even though these teams were more evenly matched during league play, this was playoffs and anything can happen.  Carter LeBlanc scored the first goal midway through the 1st period and these boys never looked back.  The final score was 7 - 3 and our kids were excited to be advancing to the next round.

The 2nd game of the day was going to be a tough one but our boys were up to the challenge of taking on the #1 team from Hermantown.  Saying this game was AWESOME is a huge understatement!  Our kids out shot, out passed, out skated and out played this Hermantown team who expected to walk all over us. The score remained tied at 0 after the 1st, then Hermantown forced one in on a slow whistle and covered puck to be on top 1 - 0 after the 2nd.   Early in the 3rd a breakaway goal by Caleb Dilley tied it up again and it wasn't long before Justin Kelota followed suit and the Mariners were on top!  Our boys were fired up and digging deep as the Hermantown team had a much deeper bench than we did, our team had to work that much harder to keep our lead.  Unfortunately, late in the 3rd Hermantown again tied it up with a power play goal and it was anybody's game!  As the final minutes were winding down and the fans were winding up Hermantown slid one in and claimed the victory.  Sometimes the better team does not win the game......and this was one of those times!

What a great season this peewee team had!  This is not only a really good group of talented young hockey players but a fantastic bunch of super great kids!!

They will continue to lace up the skates and practice through mid March when they will host a final tournament for the season.  So if you haven't seen them play yet this season and still want to, stop by the Silver Bay Arena the weekend of March 19th and catch them in action!  You will not be disappointed!!!
