Paraprofessional Educator Job Description
 

Position: Paraprofessional Educator
Reports To: School Director
Hours: 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday – Friday per school calendar.

Pay: dependent on experience

Qualifications:
Paraprofessional Educator shall meet the requirements of a “Highly Qualified” paraprofessional by meeting the following basic requirements:

An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree, or
Two years of post-secondary coursework totaling 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits from an accredited institution of higher education which are applicable towards a bachelor’s degree, or
Passing score of 460 (or higher) on the ParaPro Assessment AND either a high school diploma or GED certificate.

Candidate will have the emotional maturity and stability necessary for the specialized work involved.
High level skills in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, and science.
Minimally, two years of demonstrated experience working in a school setting with elementary students receiving special education services.

Essential Functions:
Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the facilitator and classroom teachers.

Work with other professionals such as speech therapist, occupational therapist, mental health professionals, teaching staff and administration to support individualized educational plans and services.

Demonstrate ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in a school environment.

Support students with emotional or behavioral challenges and assist them in developing social skills.

Provide input in the evaluation of student performance in accordance with school assessment tools, promote student achievement, collect and maintain data, make reports as requested by the school director.

Adapt classroom work under the direction of the classroom and special education teachers for the purpose of supporting and/or reinforcing lesson plans.

Monitors individual students, classroom, playground, and lunchroom for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
