Lady Vikings Destroy Knights

The Cook County Vikings enjoyed a nice three day break from games where they were able to actually string together some practices and get healthier. Coming off a good win in Ely where they were led by their seniors, with each of them tallying double-doubles (Boomer 15 pts, 12 rebs., Larson 15 pts., 10 rebs.), the Vikings welcomed the Babbitt-Embarrass Knights to Grand Marais.

The game started out quickly as the Knights scored on a Jessie LaValley drive. The Vikings roared back, though, with 17 straight points to build a big lead. Then Brea Boomer took over the game ! inside, scoring 16 of the Vikings next 18 points as Cook County dominated the action. Boomer led the Vikings with 21 first half points as they led going into the break 48-17, while Ailee Larson added 10 points on nice slashes to the bucket. The Vikings cleaned the glass with Boomer leading the charge with 9 first half rebounds and Theresa Morrin and Bekah Laky helping out.Â

The second half produced more of the same, with the Vikings producing stops and turning them into buckets. You could easily see the emphasis that was put on rebounding as the Vikes set up an impenetrable forcefield around the basket as shots were going up. There wasn't much question which team was going to come up with the board. The Vikings also had a nice night on the free throw line, going 20-28, led by As! hley Deschampe (7-8) and Boomer (5-6). The 73-26 win pushes the Vikings record to 13-2, with road games on Friday and Monday at Wrenshall and SIlver Bay.Â
