Kids encouraged to share patriotic thoughts in Independence Day essay contestSubmitted by star on Tue, 06/30/2009 - 1:02pm
A youth patriotic essay contest is one of the highlights of the Grand Marais “Celebrate by the Bay” Independence Day Celebration. Young people are encouraged to submit an essay explaining, “What patriotism means to me” by July 1. Essay guidelines are: In the 4-6 grade category, the essay should be no longer than 150 words; in the 7-9th grade and 10-12 grade categories, the essays should be 300 words or less. Entries must include the youth’s name, age, parents’ name and address, phone and/or e-mail. One entry per youth. There is a $50 cash prize and certificate in each category.
Entries may be dropped off or e-mailed to: Cook County News-Herald, 15 First Avenue West in Grand Marais or e-mailed to: star@boreal.org.
