Grand Marais Art Colony hosts Arts Festival in downtown Grand Marais July 12-13

The Grand Marais Arts Festival is this weekend and downtown Grand Marais will be buzzing with unique booths with 80 participating artists lining Wisconsin Street. on July 12-13.

This year’s festival musicians include locals Bump Blomberg, Adam Moe, Michael Monroe, Eric Frost, and Briand Morrison.

In the center of the festival, the Art Colony will be hosting several activities: creating a book with the Minnesota Center for Book Arts, Gyotaku Fish Printing, creating clay figurines, screen-printing a t-shirt or a tote bag, and crafting a children’s art find booklet.

And the Art Colony is offering a number of interesting and educational programs in conjunction with the annual event. Classes offered during the festival, July 12 and 13, include Quick Paint with Todd Voss, July 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Shoot the Moon with Bryan Hansel, July 12 from 6 to 10 p.m.; Pencil Portraiture with David Hahn, July 12 from 2 to 4 p.m.; and Rock Balance Art on July 13 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Other scheduled classes include Animal Sculpture on July 1; Advanced Animal Sculpture on July 2 and 3; Letterboxing on July 5; Pastel Plein Air on July 7 -11; and Native Clay Workshop on July 7 - 9.
