Girls Basketball Wins Big over Moose Lake/Willow River!

The Moose Lake/Willow River Rebels came into Tuesday night’s game with a solid 6-3 record and an impressive standing in Section 7AA. The Vikings came in with off of Christmas vacation with a 5-1 record, all games being played at home.

The Vikings jumped out early to a 7-2 lead on the back of senior Brea Boomer, who scored their first 5 points inside. At that point the Vikings press took over, forcing numerous turnovers and scoring in the fast break. Senior Ailee Larson led the charge, scoring 16 points in the 1st half, 8 of them from the free throw line. Boomer chipped in 11 1st half points, while the Vikings scored 30 fast break points in the half. The Vikings took a 52-18 lead into the break.

The Rebels jumped out quickly in the 2nd half with the Viking press pulled back and Shelby Halverson drained three quick shots to put 7 points on the board for the Rebels. The Vikings responded, though, with a nice 18-0 run to basically close out the game. Junior Ashley Deschampe nailed a couple threes to finish the night with 22 points and the bench players came in and finished off the game. Larson led the Vikings with 24 points and Boomer added 14 points to go along with her 11 rebounds. Juniors Molly Zafft and Bekah Laky played well, chipping in 10 and 6 points respectively. The 84-39 win

moves the Vikings record to 6-1, with two road games to finish off the week in Albrook and Carlton.
