FEMA Sprinkler Grant Program Delayed

Action on the Cook County Pre Disaster Mitigation Grant has come up against a new hurdle. The awarding of the sprinkler grant needs “to wait for Congress to appropriate their budget and the last couple of years this hasn’t occurred until after January which delays everything," said Kristen Sailer.  "Cook County will receive the grant it is just a matter of when."  Sailer is Program Administrator, State Hazard Mitigation Officer for the MN Department of Public Safety Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

Since the federal government is operating on a continuing resolution, the new budget will not be acted on until after January 2009.  Congressional attention has also been focused on the national, global and now California financial crisis. As a result May 2009 is the likeliest start date.
