County Board supports federal grant application that targets Ham Lake Fire damage on Gunflint Trail

The County Board agreed to provide up to $25,000 in an in-kind match for a federal grant to help manage Ham Lake Fire damage in the Gunflint Trail corridor. The Gunflint Trail Scenic Byway Committee is writing the grant on behalf of the United States Forest Service. If the $250,000 grant is awarded, a portion will be used to cut down standing dead timber close to the Gunflint Trail. The funds will also be used to reseed burned areas along the trail as recommended in the USFS reforestation plan. The remaining portion of the required in-kind match, another $25,000, will be provided by the USFS.
