POSTPONED: Winston Churchill and "Their Finest Hour" 75 years later Presentation by Dr. Karen Halbersleben

Please note the Winston Churchill presentation has been postponed until August due to a family emergency that has come up. If you have registered for the presentation we will be moving your reservation to the August (likely the 12th or 13th) date. If you will be needing a refund instead please let us know. We are sorry for the inconvenience. 218-387-3411 or highered@northshorecampus.org if you have questions.

Cook County Higher Education is honored to feature Dr. Karen Halbersleben, who will present “Winston Churchill: the Man and the Myth” on Thursday, June 18th, from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at Cook County Higher Education. This talk is a reprise of the talk Karen gave three years ago (it does not seem that long ago). If you missed that event, you will want to attend this one.  If you attended in 2012, you will want to listen again!  There is a $10 fee to attend with RSVP and $15 dollars at the door!  Early registration is strongly recommended to assure you have a place. We are limiting the seating to avoid overheating the room.

"We shall never surrender."  "Their finest hour...". The words and the leadership of Winston Churchill continue to fascinate Americans 50 years after his death, and June 18th, 2015 is the 75th anniversary of Churchill’s “Finest Hour” speech.

Brown Bag Lunch: Why You Need a Will

Date: Tuesday, June 23rd

Time: 11:30am-12:30pm

Instructor: Ruthanne Vos

Cost: FREE

Location: Cook County Higher Education

Do you know that two out of three people die without a Will?  This course will explain why every adult should have a Will, Power of Attorney and Health Care Directive. The instructor, Ruthanne Hedstrom Vos, is an estate planning attorney with Mathison Law Office.

Ruthanne will discuss the preliminary steps in making a Will including preparing an asset summary and choosing personal representatives, trustees and guardians.  The session will also cover estate taxes, probate and an introduction to living trusts.

Ruthanne Vos was admitted to the Minnesota Bar in May of 2012. She graduated cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law, where she served as a representative to the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Elder Law Council, and as Vice President of the Elder Law and Estate Planning Society.

Ruthanne has extensive business experience including serving as President of Travel Graphics International, a Minneapolis-based publisher of maps and travel promotional materials, and owning her own communications consulting practice. She received her undergraduate degree in 1983 from Gustavus Adolphus College, studying pre-law, psychology and business.
Ruthanne, a native of Grand Marais, enjoys spending time at her cabin on Devil Track Lake with her family — husband Jim and daughters Stephanie and Allison. She divides her professional time between Grand Marais and the Twin Cities metro area. Mathison Law Office practices primarily in the areas of estate planning, wills and trusts, probate, long-term care planning and elder law.
