FISH Project

NEEDED: Women 16 to 50 years of age to enroll in the FISH Project. The project looks at fish consumption and blood mercury levels (a small amount of blood, about 1 tsp, will be drawn).  Call Sawtooth Mountain Clinic (387 2330) or Grand Portage Health Service (475 2235) for questions or to make an appointment. ENROLL NOW and join the 390 women already enrolled. We want to enroll 500 women by the end of June. Visits are free and confidential, take about 45 minutes, you do not need to eat fish to participate, you can be pregnant.  You will recieve $50 VISA card upon completion of visit.

Horse Boarding in GM

Just in time for the riding season, year-round horse boarding is available 2 miles from Grand Marais, close to trails and quiet roads.

Quality, free-choice hay and fresh water are available 24/7, as well as several roomy run-in sheds.  A large, convenient tack building with adjacent sturdy hitching post is available to boarders, and possibly room to store your horse trailer here, if desired.

An excellent farrier comes on a regular schedule, as well as an equine dentist.  Experienced horse owner lives onsite and has daily contact with the horses.

Board is $200/month (does not include farrier and dentist).  There is currently room for 2-4 additional horses.

Wilderness First Responder Class at Menogyn

Camp Menogyn is hosting both the Wilderness First Repsonder course as well as the re-certification course this spring.

The course covers rudimentary principles applicable to backcountry situations including but not limited to improvising splints, assessing illnesses, and determining when evacuations from the field are necessary.

The full certification course is being held at Camp Menogyn from May 18-25 while the re-certification is going from May 27-29.
