The Cook County Vikings season came to an abrupt end on Wednesday night with a 66-57 loss to the Mountain Iron-Buhl Rangers. The Rangers jumped out to a quick 19-1 lead over the Vikings behind 15 Charlotte Overbye points. After a couple of timeouts, the Vikings regrouped and got back to doing what they do best, playing tough defense, rebounding, and attacking the basket. Going hard to the basket led to a nice run that got the Vikes back in the game. After a couple of free throws from sophomores Taylor Ryden and Theresa Morrin, junior Ashley Deschampe scored 12 of the next 14 points, including two 3’s. The Rangers got another 3 and two free throws from Overbye and the Vikes got a late put back bucket from junior Molly Zafft to send both teams into halftime with the score MIB 28-CC 24.
Silver Bay/Cook County Hockey Squirts end their season on a high note by defeating Cloquet 5 - 3 at the Heritage Cntr in Duluth last night!
First game in Regional playoffs came on Friday afternoon with a come from behind win to defeat Mouds View 4 - 3!
2nd Game was played at 11:45 on Saturday morning against a very talented Elk River team. They worked hard but took a loss in this one with the final score being 1 - 3.
The Bantams win their 2nd game of the weekend on Saturday night in a huge overtime 3 - 2 victory over Centennial!
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and they took a tough loss on Sunday morning to end their hopes of a trip to State.
This awesome Bantam team is comprised of kids from Silver Bay, Grand Marais and Two Harbors and had an excellent season of Bantam hockey!!
The Cook County Vikings improved their record to 19-3 with an 88-19 win on Thursday night over the Wrenshall Wrens. The Vikings fell behind 3-0 after a Burcar free throw and Ellerbe layup but then went on a nice 50-0 run to put the game away. The Vikings went into halftime with a 60-9 lead. Senior Brea Boomer and junior Ashley Deschampe led the way with 18 first half points each.
The Vikings went on to win 88-19 and advance to play the AlBrook Falcons in the Section 7A quarterfinals in Hibbing at 2:45 on Saturday. All Vikings played and all scored. The 2nd half was highlighted by Boomer scoring her 1000th point when she was fouled, went to line, and calmly drained a free throw to put her at 1000. Boomer is the 2nd player this year to eclipse the milestone, joining Deschampe who hit it earlier this season. She is the 7th girl in school history, the 5th in the last 5 years, and the 3rd girl in the last two seasons to reach it.
