CC Vikings Sports Scores
The Cook County Vikings started out the season with a home game against Section 7A opponent Nashwauk-Keewatin Spartans. The Vikings started out the game quick, winning the tip and senior Ashley Deschampe firing a pass to a cutting sophomore Breana Peterson for the game first bucket. It’d be a while before the antsy Vikings would score again, finally connecting on a Dish drive to go up 4-2. In a game marred by sloppy passing all around, the Vikings were able to go on a nice 14-3 spurt to take a 29-14 lead into the half. Deschampe and Peterson both tallied 7 points in the half to lead the Vikings.
The 2nd half was much like the 1st, with sloppy play at times, followed by short stretches of good ball by the Vikes. A team trying to establish their new identity without Brea Boomer and Ailee Larson, they at times moved the ball well or ran the court but failed to execute all the way to the bucket. Eventually, the Vikings pulled out a 53-33 win, in a game that looked like the first of the season. The Vikings were led by Deschampe’s 20 points, including 4 threes. Peterson finished with those 7 points, as did junior Theresa Morrin and sophomore Jessica Berg-Collman, who came in and gave the Vikings a lot of good minutes off the bench. Junior Kaitlynn Linnell and senior Bekah Laky scored 5 apiece, while senior Molly Zafft chipped in 2 in a game where she struggled to find her rhythm. The Vikings look to rebound against South Ridge on Tuesday, when they take on the 2-0 Panthers at 4:45 in their new school.
