CC Vikings Sports Scores
The Cook County Vikings traveled to the brand new school at South Ridge to take on the newly cooperated schools of AlBrook and Cotton. South Ridge started out the year with a couple of wins and rightfully so, returning the top seven players off of AlBrook’s team. The Panthers feature five seniors in the starting lineup and a talented bench so the Vikes knew they were in for a dogfight.
It was a slow start for both teams as each team traded punch for punch on the defensive end. The Vikings took a 4-3 lead on a Jessica Berg-Collman driving floater. Little would it be known the Vikings would keep that lead the rest of the way, though there would be many moments that it would be very tight many, many times. With the Panthers playing a box and one on Dish, the other Vikings stepped up and made plays to put some points on the board. Berg-Collman and Theresa Morrin scored early in the half to give the Vikes the lead and Bekah Laky scored 9 of the Vikings last 11 points in the half to give them a 33-31 lead going into the half. The major problems the Vikes had in the half was with fouling on the defensive end of the court. The Vikes held the Panthers to 14 points with 4:30 minutes to go in the half, but they nailed 11 free throws to with some easy buckets to get back in the game. The Vikings had to deal with five girls with 2 fouls and another player with 3 fouls at the half.
