Work began today to open the Lutsen Access Trail from the State Trail to downtown Lutsen. The trail was pre-cleared of downed and bent brush from the Intersection of the State Trail and the Lutsen Access Trail to downtown Lutsen. Tonight a groomer crew is making its way through this trail, They were not able to pull the Drag at this time but packing is being performed. The trail is ridable with caution. Gas, Food, and Lodging are now available in downtown Lutsen. Tomorrow, work is scheduled to begin on the Caribou Snowmobile Trail. Then these 2 trails will be groomed using the drag. The rest of the trail system will open shortly after these 2 main trails have been opened and groomed.
We are in need of labor to help with this project. Anyone that is interested in working on the trails should contact Larry McNeally at 218-370-9268. This way a Systmatic Effort can be put forth to clear the trails and get them groomed.
We will be posting updates to this site as trails continue to open. Check back soon if you are thinking of Riding over the Holiday Break. Remember that Caution should be used as there will be crews working both day and night. If you encouter these crews feel free to stop and lend a hand, Remember that were all in this together and keep your stick on the ice.
Trails were ready to open. Then came some very heavy wet snow, which has drooped the brush and trees down, restricting the trails. Lakes are unfit for travel at this time. Ice fisherman should use Extreem caution .
Around 4"-6" inches of Heavy wet snow fell on Tuesday with temps right around freezing. Since then temps. have remained well below freezing and traces of snow fall each day. The snow from Tuesday has bonded well to the ground except were there was standing water.
Caution should be used. the trails remain closed until more snow and the groomer can get out.
