Minutes of the Old Ski Hill Consensus Committee 7/10/2000
In attendance: Vicki Wenz , Cathi Williams, Amy Wilfahrt, Sue Abrahamsen, George Wilkes, Bob Fenwick, Annie Debevec, Bill Hansen.
Meeting convened at 7:10 PM at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts conference room..
Consensus obtained on the minutes of the 6/26/2000 meeting.
Chuck Schmidt, Cook County Highway Department Engineer, appeared to share information and answer questions.
If traffic increases on CCHS 64 (the Old Ski Hill Road) to more than 200 vehicles per day, the road would have to be upgraded. Part of the upgrade would invlove the separation of 64 and 52 (the Cutoff Road).
The minimum standard would bea 30' roadbed with a 66' right of way.
Estimated cost of an upgrade to the minimum standard would be $500,000.
Chuck covered how roads are paid for. 64 is not a state aid road, so improvements would be born by the county. The road and bridge fund is derived from property tax, the federal 25% fund, and other sources.
Chuck recalled that he has received inquiries from private parties concerning costs of upgrading 64.
2nd Avenue has not been vacated north of #7.
Chuck addressed run off studies conducted in connection with the Gunflint Trail relocation. Chuck's opinion is that any development on the ski hill site will increase runoff at the lakeshore. In his opinion, improvements within the village will be needed to handle increased run off.
Any developer would be required to provide a water shade/run off/drainage plan.
Chuck discussed the Gunflint Trail relocation in detail.
Consensus was reached that at the next meeting each member will present values that are most important to them and choose one of several items from the list of interests that speak to those values.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, 7/31 at the Arrowhead Center For the Arts conference room.
Respectfully submitted, Bill Hansen
