Minutes of the Old Ski Hill Consensus Committee 10/2/2000
In attendance: Vicki Wenz, Kevin Bader, Cathi Williams, Amy Wilfahrt, George Wilkes, Sue Abrahamsen, Bob Fenwick, Annie Debevec, Bill Hansen.
Meeting convened at 7:05 PM at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts confernece room.
Consensus was reached on approval of the 9/11/00 minutes.
Consusus was reached on meeting times for the next three meetings. All are to be held at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts conference room. Monday, October 16th at 4:30 p. m., Monday; October 30th at 7 p. m. (fen expert, Norm Aaseng, will be joining us at 7:30); Monday, November 6th at 4:30 p. m.
Proposal for consensus #9 -
Vocational school on the city property between the new Gunflint Trail and Creechville. On the lower part of the hill a birding center with trails leading to the overlooks, planted with native plants and identified. Boardwalk through fen. Classic nordic/snowshoe/summer hiking trails that connect to Pincushion overlook parking lot. All use non-motorized except existing snowmobile trail. Upper portion of land traded to the Forest Service for land that is suitable for a golf course/amphitheater/multi-use complex. Investigate use of school property for affordable housing.
Proposal for consensus #10 -
Sell the county land to the city for fair market value, or land stays with county w/agreement that allows for recreational uses (in line with existing consensus to enhance winter/summer tourism).
Propoasal for consensus #11 -
Put land under a conservation easement. Allow non-motorized trails (as detailed in other proposals) and fen walk.
Proposal for consensus #12 -
Snowboard/ski area with snowshoe trails.
