 enter this winter. The Heritage Center offers many fun and educational acti
 vities for you and your family. Visit the Heritage Center in Grand Portage 
 Monday through Saturday from 8:30am to 4:30pm to experience a bit of local 
 history. \n\nThe Heritage Center offers a variety of short films on our six
 teen foot screen\, including the twenty-three minute HD film Rendezvous wit
 h History: A Grand Portage Story and three other short films. The Heritage 
 Center houses\, over 84\,000 archaeological objects\, 1400 early 20th centu
 ry ethnological objects\, numerous historical photographs\, replica trade g
 oods of the 18th century\, and the Park s administrative offices. A large s
 ample of the historical objects from the collection is on public display. \
 n\nThe national monument also offers winter hiking opportunities. Walk in t
 he footsteps of hundreds of years of history\; experience the historic Gran
 d Portage trail\, on snowshoes. The Heritage Center offers two styles of tr
 aditional snowshoes to check out for daily use. \n\nThe Grand Portage Natio
 nal Monument became a unit of the National Park Service in 1958. Created to
  protect\, commemorate\, and interpret a reconstructed fur depot of the Nor
 th West Company\, a rendezvous site for international commerce and canoe ro
 ute for transcontinental\, exploration\, native heritage\, natural scene\, 
 and history of cross cultural contact and accommodation between traders\, O
 jibwe\, and other participants in the fur trade.\n\nThe Heritage Center is 
 located on County Road 17 (Mile Creek Road) in Grand Portage\, Minnesota ap
