Come learn more about Kevin DeRosier, your Cook County friend and neighbor, who owns and operates Cook County Towing.

How did you land in Cook County?  What led you here?

I have pretty much grown up in Cook County.  I was in the Boundary Waters on East Pike the week after I was born.  I spent summers on McFarland Lake until my parents bought a cabin in Lutsen when I was in 5th grade.  I went to College for Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement and remember talking to a friend of the family Sheriff John Lyght about working here.  I moved to Grand Marais permanently in 2011 and worked at the Sheriffs office.  I then worked up the Gunflint as a handyman and purchased Cook County Towing.

You own and operate Cook County Towing.  You must work some very long days, especially in the winter months.  What inspired you to get into this business?  With Ayden starting oil changes at the shop, are you hoping he follows in his father's steps and one day takes over the business?

Yes, I am always on call and it has been stressful on my family and relationships but I love helping others.  I have always wanted to help others since I was a child and I guess that’s what I am doing every day.  My children have all grown up in the business and can probably tell you more than most adults lol.  The kids just started their own business out of the shop called ATC Auto (Ayden, Trygve and Camille Auto). I have always encouraged my kids to do anything they want to do and I will support them in any of their endeavors no matter what.

Proudest moment in your life?

The proudest moment of my life is every time I look at my kids.  They are my life.

What is the best advice you were ever given and how did it impact your life?

Treat others how you would like to be treated.  I always try to treat everyone with respect and love no matter how I feel about them.

You have probably seen it all on your work calls.  What is the biggest facepalm call that you have been on?

We have dealt with a lot.  We even had to get a groomer and outfit it to pull cars off snowmobile trails.  Everyday is an experience in this business.  Every call is different and it’s a new learning experience on every one of them.  Just check out our Facebook page and you will see a lot of the facepalms.

When you are not busy working, where is your favorite Cook County spot to hang out and unwind?

I am always on call so it’s hard to do much but when I do shut off the phone my favorite place to hang out is anywhere with my family.  I don’t get a lot of time with them so anytime we are together I try to make it the best I can.
