The Cook County Pride Committee recently announced two upcoming events (and a new website) open to all community members.

A Drag Brunch & Variety Show will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, and planning is underway for the annual Pride Event in June. Boreal Community Media reached out to the Pride Committee to learn more about these two upcoming events.

The Drag Brunch & Variety Show focuses on celebrating LGBTQIA+ Cook County youth. According to Pride Committee members, "The youth are the driving force behind this event, and they will be presenting on LGBTQIA+ history and the art that is Drag. There will be a range of performances from lip-syncs, to playing musical instruments, short skits, and maybe some comedy or poetry."

French toast will be served at the brunch which is first come, first serve, and pay what you can.  No registration is required, and no one will be turned away for a lack of funds. "As a group, we are dedicated to creating safe and inclusive spaces for queer people and allies of all ages," said a member of the committee. This event is presented by the Cook County LGBTQIA2S+ Youth Group, and sponsored by the Grand Marais Playhouse.

The annual Cook County Pride Celebration will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2024, with activities starting at 8:00 AM and running throughout the entire day. "
People can expect arts & crafts, music, dancing, free food, and a rally & march around the town. Events will start in the morning and continue all day, so people can come and go as they please," the Pride Committee shared. A call for volunteers will go out closer to June.
