From Cook County, MN - April 8, 2024

University of MN Extension, Cook County Soil and Water, and Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center are partnering to present a workshop on tree planting and care for beginners.

The workshop will take place Tuesday, May 14 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center located at 9606 W Hwy 61 in Schroeder, MN. The workshop is free but pre-registration is required. Register online at: z.umn.edu/treeplanting2024

As the saying goes, “The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.” Planting trees on your land is a great idea for many reasons, but if you haven’t done it before it can be a daunting task! In this workshop, we’ll cover the basics of sourcing trees, site selection, tree choices, and best practices for planting and caring for trees. If you want to plant a few trees in your yard or hundreds in your woodland, you’ll gain tips and tricks to help you succeed.

Participants are asked to bring a pair of work gloves if they have them to use during the hands-on practice portion of this workshop. Dress for the weather, we will primarily be outside. Learn more and register at: z.umn.edu/treeplanting2024. Any questions about the workshop can be directed to Sarah Waddle at the Cook County Extension Office at 218-387-3015 or [email protected].
