The Grand Marais Public Library is excited to screen the documentary Mayor Humphrey of Minneapolis on Wednesday, April 17, from 6:00-8:30 PM.

Mayor Humphrey of Minneapolis was produced in 2023 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Humphrey’s historic civil rights speech at the National Democratic Convention in July of 1948, and it will be broadcast on PBS stations nationwide beginning in September.

Mick Caouette is an acclaimed documentary filmmaker who began his career in 1996, as an Associate Producer for two Court TV films, The Scottsboro Boys and The Capture and Trial of Adolph Eichmann. He later produced Restore America with Bob Vila on HGTV.

Since 1999, Mick has produced six independent films, three of which appeared nationally on PBS. Hubert H. Humphrey: The Art of the Possible, Mr. Civil Rights: Thurgood Marshall and the NAACP, and Summoned: Frances Perkins and the General Welfare are now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Producer Mick Caouette will lead a discussion after the film and answer viewer questions. This movie is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 5:30. Non-alcoholic drinks with lids are welcome.

In other news, the library is partnering with the Violence Prevention Center to screen Women Talking at 6 PM on April 19, with discussion led by Lindsey and Jessica, VPC advocates for victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
